The Order , formally known as the Bavarian Illuminatenorden , was a short-lived organization founded in 1777 by Adam Weishaupt, a lecturer at the University of Munich. Primarily, its aim was to counteract the sway of clericalism and dogma through the encouragement of logic and self-determination.
